The Redlair Preserve

Information

What is Redlair? Redlair is short for Redlair Farm & Forest. At its essence, the property is a conservation project of enormous proportions.  Redlair proper consists of approximately 750 acres privately owned by the Rankin family, which is dedicated to finding a way to insure preservation in perpetuity of this incredible resource.  Adjacent to the Rankin’s property are an additional ~450 acres owned or paritally protected by the Catawba Lands Conservancy.  For ease of description, we refer to the collection of all of these properties as Redlair.

Redlair Research & Advisory Council:  The Redlair Research & Advisory Council is an interdisciplinary group of volunteer individuals who are stakeholders at Redlair and who have agreed to be the primary contacts for individuals wishing to use Redlair for research or education activities. These persons are volunteers designated by the Catawba Lands Concervancy. The mission of the Advisory Council is to (1) foster collaboration across and within disciplines as it relates to research on the Redlair lands, (2) promote and enable sharing of data collected on Redlair (3) ensure that research done by one person on Redlair does not adversely affect that done by another, (4) ensure that any research done on Redlair has minimal impact on the environment, and (5) ensure the long-term viability of Redlair as a site for field research, including the preservation of core data and the maintenance of a relatively pristine environment acorss the property
